Spiced Wine and Warm Fire

Spiced Wine Recipe

I had a cocktail party recently. The party was a hit, but since I was mixing pitchers of this Apple Pie Cocktail, nobody really seemed interested in the spiced wine I made. To be completely honest, that was fine by me. I sealed it up and put it in my fridge and felt no shame microwaving myself a warm little treat every night that week!

Thanks to Real Simple for this recipe.

Spiced Wine Recipe:

1.5L bottle (or 6 cups) of red wine (I used a cabernet/merlot mix)
3 cups cranberry juice cocktail
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup cranberries (you can use frozen!)
2 cinnamon sticks

Bring the cranberry juice, sugar and cinnamon sticks to a simmer for 15 minutes. Stir in the red wine and cranberries and bring back to a simmer. Keep warm on low temperature. I saved my leftovers in the fridge (sans the cranberries). To reheat, I microwaved it in a mug for about 1 minute and 20 seconds.

It went from 70-degree weather down to high 40s here this week, so I decide to take advantage of the chilliness and have a fire this weekend while I curled up with Molly and a mug of this wine and prayed the Tigers would stop breaking my heart. Sadly, they still broke it. I hate the Giants.

  • I’m glad you have this recipe up! I remember you made it last year for the holiday party and I was thinking I might want to make this at some point. I hate the giants too and I’m jealous of your fireplace! send kisses to molly and a fart to ben!
